Omniscient FAQ
In this post, we answer the most common questions about Omniscient.

Price
Q: Is Omniscient free to use?
A: Yes. Omniscient offers a generous free tier that can be used for non-commercial purposes.
Apple LOG
Q: Can I record in Apple’s LOG format?
A: No. We would love to add Apple’s LOG, but that’s currently out of our reach due to an Apple limitation. Currently, Omniscient records video in the device’s standard color profile.
Android
Q: Is Omniscient available for Android devices?
A: No. Currently, Omniscient is an iOS/iPadOS-exclusive app.
Stabilisation
Q: Does Omniscient include built-in stabilization for smoother footage?
A: No. Omniscient cannot take advantage of the device’s built-in lens stabilization. This limitation is due to the camera tracking process while recording and is beyond our control. Currently, the best possible workaround is to use a gimbal.
Lens
Q: Which lens can I use when recording?
A: Only the wide lens is available in Omniscient. We would love to add other lenses, but that’s currently out of our reach due to an Apple limitation.
External Hard Drive
Q: Is it possible to record directly to an external hard drive?
A: No. Omniscient saves all captured data (video, camera tracking, and LiDAR scans) directly to your iOS/iPadOS device. Although you cannot record directly to an external hard drive, transferring your files is simple. You can use AirDrop, cloud services, or the file management app to move your data from your iPhone to an external drive.
Mesh Texture
Q: Do the 3D scans include textures?
A: No. At the moment, Omniscient focuses on capturing geometry. The exported mesh currently does not include texture information. However, textured scans are a potential feature for future updates, so keep an eye out for new releases.
Mount Onto Another Camera
Q: Can I mount my iPhone/iPad onto another camera to track my other camera?
A: Yes and No. While the idea seems simple, in practice, achieving the desired result with the current setup is challenging. However, we plan on offering a workflow for this usage. Send us a message if you want to be part of the beta testers of this feature.
This Q&A aims to clear up some of the usual queries about Omniscient. If you have more questions or need further details about any feature, feel free to reach out. Happy shooting!
