Omniscient FAQ
In this post, we answer the most common questions about Omniscient.
Is Omniscient free to use?
Yes. Omniscient offers a generous free tier that can be used for non-commercial purposes.
Can I record in Apple Log?
Yes. Omniscient now supports Apple Log recording on supported devices, giving you more flexibility when color grading your footage in post-production.
Is Omniscient available for Android devices?
No. Currently, Omniscient is an iOS/iPadOS-exclusive app.
Does Omniscient include built-in stabilization?
No. Omniscient cannot take advantage of the device’s built-in lens stabilization. This limitation is caused by the camera tracking process during recording and is beyond our control. Omniscient provides an in-app post-stabilization option that can be applied after capture. For optimal results, the best workaround is to use a gimbal.
Which lens can I use when recording?
Only the wide lens is available in Omniscient. We would love to add other lenses, but that’s currently out of our reach due to an Apple limitation.
Can I record directly to an external hard drive?
Yes. Connect an external drive, enable Save videos on external drive under Settings → Storage, and select the drive as the recording destination.
Important: The external drive stores video files only. Camera-tracking and scan data remain in the Omniscient app on your device, so don’t delete the app or its local data assuming everything was copied to the drive. If the selected drive is unavailable or unwritable, Omniscient falls back to internal storage and displays a warning.
Do the 3D scans include textures?
No. At the moment, Omniscient focuses on capturing geometry. The exported mesh currently does not include texture information. However, textured scans are a potential feature for future updates, so keep an eye out for new releases.
Can I mount my iPhone/iPad onto another camera?
Yes. Mounted Workflow, available as part of Omniscient Pro, lets you mount an iPhone/iPad on an external camera and capture camera-tracking data and a scene scan for use in post-production. You record your footage on the external camera and use Omniscient’s tracking and scan outputs in your VFX workflow
